Home Energy Audit
The one audit that will actually save you money!!
Who do you call when you want to make your home more efficient or solve comfort problems?
Until now, most homeowners have had little choice but to pull out the yellow pages and guess.
Unfortunately, guessing frequently results in purchasing improvements that are unneeded, too expensive or ineffective. (For example, efficiency or comfort problems that start with windows or insulation are probably not going to be fully successful or cost effective).
Home Green Home eliminates the guesswork with our process that uses building science testing to provide strategic and actionable information to create the best plan for your home.
We have found again and again that good diagnostic information leads to the best results. Guessing where to make improvements may mean that you spend money on improvements you don’t need while not making the improvements that will get real results.
Our process includes:
1) The Assessment – The Home Energy Audit pinpoints exactly where your house is losing energy. Home Green Home Energy Audits are a 2-4 hour process with one of our “certified building analysts” using specialized equipment and loads of experience to diagnose your home and find opportunities for improvement. Your Home Green Home representative can discuss different audit levels that are available and help choose what will work best for you.
2) The Report – During a meeting after the energy audit, we present a list of priorities that identify areas for improvements based on your audit results, goals and potential impact on overall energy efficiency. Customers purchasing an “essentials” audit will often receive their report the same day. ”Comprehensive” audit reports will usually be delivered within a week.
3) Improvements – Energy efficiency upgrades are installed by our expert crews with knowledge about energy and weatherization techniques.
4) Retest – Depending on the improvements made, we will conduct a post improvement blower door test to ensure we met energy efficiency goals.

Tools we use:
1) Blower Door
2) Thermal Imaging Camera
3) Smoke Pencil
4) Specialized Software and Manual J-Calculations (comprehensive audits only)
5) Combustion Gas Testing Equipment

Common Improvement Recommendations Include:
1) Air Sealing
2) Insulation
3) Sealing and Insulating Ductwork
4) Improve Heating and Cooling Efficiency
5) Install Energy Efficient Lighting
There is a HUGE benefit from choosing our “Home Performance” approach to advancing your comfort and energy efficiency goals rather than piecing it out a la carte to various unrelated contractors.
More often than not, the cost of the initial energy audit is more than repaid by identifying a more efficient and effective path to improvement than could ever be arrived at by visual inspection alone.
Additionally, as consultants working for YOU, we very often advise you NOT TO BUY things that we know (based on testing) will not move you toward your goals.
Your decision will be rewarded by a more thoughtful and meaningful diagnosis of your home’s condition and therefore a more strategic, effective and economical set of improvements.
